Preparing for your second week

Guess what? The supermarkets are not your friend!

If you have followed my blog from day one, you will hopefully be sitting on £55 extra cash that you didn't have the week before. So let's prepare for the second week - and look to doubling our savings to £110 - maybe even more.

For this second shopping expedition, I went to Morrisons, but you should be able to source all these items in any supermarket. Be sure to check carefully the prices and the quantity you get for the price. Once again, prices will vary – I have found that the supermarkets' pledges and promises to keep prices down and their boasts of lower prices do not amount to much. It seems they are not our friends at all, despite their family orientated adverts dotted with gentle humour.

In just eight weeks I found the average shopping basket increased by 5% – and that is a credit card size interest rate charge per year of 28%.

That means that if your weekly shopping basket is £80, this will increase to £102 by next January.

However, if you follow my lists, your bill should only increase from £25 to £32.

On the up side, that also means my initial promise to save you £55 a week, will also increase to a saving of £70 a week.

So more than ever it is important to choose your shopping wisely.

Below is today's scrumptious meal. I hope you enjoy making – and eating – it.
